CURRICULUM VITAE

Foo Hui Wen
b. 1997
Singapore

Hui Wen’s main interest lies in how nature is processed and translated. Her artistic practice delves into the notion of naturalisation and examines how we understand and recognise our surroundings by attributing qualities to the things around us.

Her work often seeks visual/ conceptual coincidences in nature to investigate how humanistic intentions tend to mutate through zoological instances which can often be found in our use of language, metaphors or even, interactions with our environment. Through this, Hui Wen not only hope to explore the tensions between different cognitive frameworks, but also reflect on how language, a dominant framework we are reliant on, influences our daily lives and shapes the meaning we ascribe to our surroundings.

Outside of her artistic practice, Hui wen freelances and enjoys exploring a myriad of other topics. While her freelance work is not purely tied to flora and fauna, she argues that people are still part of nature and are thus worth being curious about.
